Christmas almost here!

As we approach Christmas fast things have finally slowed down this week with the horses.  Archie arrived back yesterday after his North Island stint with Vaughn Jefferis and Matt Gilmour.  Great experience for him and he ended on a great note coming 6th in a prenovice class at Puhinui.  He did a lovely dressage for 4th place, lovely clear xc, and then took the last rail in the show jumping.  It's great to have him home and I look forward to getting on him.

Johnny aka Stanhopes Johnny Magic went to his new home yesterday, sad for us to let him go but he has gone to the best home and I will see him a lot which makes it easier.  Johnny turned into a lovely safe guy to ride who moves really well and has a lovely show hunter style jump.  We wish Johnny all the best.

Marty has been collecting via AI at Astek stud and has become very quick at it!  All mares we have AI'ed this season have taken first pop so that is great news.  We are hoping to get some frozen taken shortly.

Our new foal, Elle aka Magic McPherson is another stunner, very leggy and athletic girl with a very bouncy trot.  She will be like her full sister Magic Moments and will be at least 16.2hh.

We wish everyone a fantastic Christmas and holiday break!

November so far..

We have just survived another Christchurch show - taking both the boys; Stanhopes Magician aka Marty and Magic Fluke aka Luke.  Marty got reserve champion inhand warmblood youngstock which was nice, with the judge saying that if he had trotted out properly (without showing off his manhood!) he would have gone one better.  The following day both colts went which was an interesting dynamic in itself!. With Marty taking out Champion Youngstock Male Pinto for the 3rd year in a row.  With Luke coming Reserve Champion to him.  Marty then went one better and took out Supreme Pinto Inhand - great team effort and great results. I was lucky to have Nikky Dalley leading Luke and Bert Elstob handling Marty who did a great job, thanks guys!
That night Cheleken Indy decided she would foal, so we had a lovely show day foal - a very leggy bay and white pinto filly by Whats Colour/Tomtom.  Gorgeous foal that is very athletic and seems very sweet natured like her Mum.
After 2 days at the show and then up all night with foaling, I got on a plane to go and see my eventer in the north island at his first horse trial up there.  It was a great weekend, very full on with 6 horses, 2 riders and me as groom!!  Archie is doing well and looked a wee star.  I look forward to seeing him again at Richfields and Puhunui Horse Trials shortly.
Marty has served 2 of my mares via AI and both are confirmed infoal first pop so that was also another excitement and gives us something to look forward to next year.
After such an amazing month so far unfortunately we had some sad news.  Martys first foal due this month unfortunately did not make it.  All very sad for the mare owner and mare but they are keen to try and again and we hope for better luck this time.

Magic Flukes first show

Big day for Magic Fluke aka Luke.  First bath, truck ride and first time away from home.  He was very well behaved and Nikky Dalley did a fantastic job of showing him off.  He came away with Champion Youngstock Pinto which was very exciting.  We were very proud of him especially his behaviour throughout the day.

September already

We seem to have lost September dealing with the earthquake here in Christchurch.  We had quite alot of damage to our house and have only just moved back in.  We seem to be getting used to the aftershocks now.  The poor horses were a bit spooked but have come through it ok.
We have had the first Horse Trial of the season and Archie the young TB won his training class which was very exciting.
The breeding season is pretty much on us and Delta will be scanned shortly and be one of Martys girls.  Indy is due with her second Whats Colour/TomTom foal on the 5th November so we are holding our breath for another stunner like Magic Moments (Mo).
Martys first foal is due on the 1st November to an outside mare so we are all waiting to see what pops out of Tash's lovely mare.
We have also got a lovely mare on lease for this coming season - she was a very successful  intermediate event mare herself and is by Brillant Invader who is one of the most successful TB jumping sires in NZ - so very excited about that and she will be another of Martys girls.
Little Luke, last years foal has got his first show this Sunday so will hopefully get some photos and keep you posted!
Good luck to all those with competitions coming up and all the best to our Christchurch earthquake friends!

August roundup

We had a great weekend with Vaughn Jefferis here training us all.  He is a great trainer and we are already looking forward to his next visit.  Johnny our almost 4yr had his first jump school and he seems to be quite talented which is very exciting!
I have been taking Marty out to Bert Elstobs for a few educations inhand as Bert has kindly agreed to lead him at the Stallion parade on the 12 September.
Back into busy season with the Horse Trials about to start , breeding and showing season almost apon us.  All very exciting and exhausting all at the same time!

Stanhopes Magician

Breeding season is getting closer...we are working on getting a new page on our web site for our young stallion Stanhopes Magician.  Keep an eye out for it.  It should have his pedigree, show record, photos and breeding agreement.  He will stand via AI to a limited number of mares this season as he is not quite 3yrs yet!  His first foal is due 5th November so that is hopefully very exciting for us and the mare owner!  We are also after the support from our facebook friends aiming to take him to the Christchurch Stallion Parade on the September 12th.  So might see you there...

August 2010

Starting to get busy for us here.  We are getting organised to stand our colt Stanhopes Magician (aka Marty) to outside mares via AI.  All very exciting and a new chapter for us.  We have had positive feed back from the article in the August Horse & Pony magazine and some bookings for Marty which is promising.
Stanhopes Johnny Magic is coming along nicely and is in light work and is proving to be a very sensible chap with  talent which is great.  The young TB Archie is now back in work getting ready for the spring horse trials. He has come in alot more settled and showing what a talented quick learner he is.  Nikky is helping handle and hopefully get the weanling, Magic Fluke ready for his first show in September all going well.

We have the super Vaughn Jefferis coming back in 28/29th August so I am also busy organising that clinic.  So along with the hard feeding twice a day, mucking out and all the other bits and bobs, it is all go!  It is great to see the sun.... long may it continue.
